.color trend - turquoise.

i'm not one to follow trends in interiors, fashion, diets.. what have you.  being original gets way more attention than following the crowd, and it's more fun to think for yourself!  during my searches over the last few days, i found multiple turquoise spotted interiors that i fell in love with.  i was curious.. why were there so many great inspiration spaces with a turquoise focus?  as soon as i logged onto pantones site, i got my answer... turquoise was named color of the year! how exciting for turquoise! ;)  this is one trend i don't mind following.

.alinea.

my sister, a student at the culinary institute of america in ny, recently let me in on a little culinary secret.  alinea restaurant in chicago, illinois.  this elegant restaurant has a menu focusing on molecular gastronomy, which basically uses chemistry to change the molecular composition of your food! crazy right?  ever have olive oil in powder form? or liquid caramel mixed with maltodextrin creating a powder that turns back into a chewy texture as you eat it? it's amazing what you can do to food and still create edible (and beautiful, might i add) dishes!  and with interiors as lovely as the food.. it's definitely a place i will be visiting on my next trip to the windy city.. mainly to see the dessert 'art' they create right in front of you on the table!

there's a whole community of chefs worldwide taking on this new, innovative way of preparing food.  Owner and Chef Grant Achatz is among the greats.  he dissects food molecule by molecule in order to find the most desirable tastes and textures.  he obviously knows his science, because his restaurant was rated one of the top 50 best in the world! a true food revolutionary.

.paperstone.

paperstone is an amazingly durable material used for residential or commercial countertops, wall cladding, tables, signs, window sills, toilet partitions, etc.  warm to the touch and stain resistant, this product is constructed of of recycled papers and petroleum-free phenolic resins made from raw materials such as liquid cashew nut shells and UV resistant pigments making it the greenest architectural surface out there today! and with prices competitive with other solid surface materials, it can be a great replacement.

There are three series of paperstone including:  'original' - made from 100% post consumer recycled cardboard, 'certified' which is made from 100% post-consumer recycled standard office paper (this is also FSC certified!), and "virgin" made from virgin fibers.  if you're looking for LEED certification, this product can gain the user up to 5 points! and it looks great paired with other green materials such as plyboo, kirei board, durapalm, or kirei coco products!
