fireplaces no longer have to be a black hole in the wall surrounded by brick or stone.  now-a-days you can mount them on the wall, divide rooms with large scale multi-way fireplaces, even have your own personal fire in your coffee table.  how cool would that be to have an outdoor room with that stunning focal point on a nice summer night!? 

while designing a spa resort for my senior thesis project, i found an A.W.E.S.O.M.E. australian company called ecosmart fire. this company is so great and environmentally friendly, making them even greater in my eyes!  the fireplaces are very efficient and burn a renewable fuel called 'denatured ethanol' resulting in a by-product of carbon dioxide, water steam, and heat.  in the united states, this fuel can be found under the name 'denatured alcohol'.  because there are no harmful gases released into the air, these fireplaces don't require a flue, making them a great heat solution for offices and apartments!
